The Wind!

The wind has been a blessing and a curse on the west coast this year. In February, we had flooding on the Dikes in Delta because of the high winds and torrential rains. Several times the power was out in large areas and we ourselves experienced a cold day listening to the wind howl around our house while we waited for the power crews to fix the lines. This past weekend we experienced another kind of wind - the winds of Spring. Lucy and I went to the dikes at the end of number 4 road and walked all the way into Steveson or maybe I should say the wind pushed us all the way to Steveson. As you can see from the picture Lucy is getting a birds eye look at what is causing her ears to flap around and my unbound hair to fly in my face continually. Winter winds make me want to hunker down under a warm blanket while the spring winds always fill me with anticipation of all the good things to come. You know flowers and bees and sunshine and sand and the beach and hot dogs and steak on the barbeque. Gone the dark of winter! Finally the bears are coming out of hibernation, the squirrels and birds are making nests, the frogs are beginning to sing their song and Lucy and I are treking to the parks, trails and beaches once again.

Spring

"Long stormy spring-time, wet contentious April, winter chilling the lap of very May; but at length the season of summer does come."
Thomas Carlyle, 1795 - 1881

Harrison - a snowy weekend get away!

I decided it was time for a little winter get away. I love Harrison, but had never been here in the middle of winter. The night before I left the mountains and valley surrounding Harrison had a good snowfall. By the time I arrived the snow was beginning to melt, but it was still very beautiful and very quiet. Few people were on the streets of this usually busy little tourist town making it even more attractive to me.
However, inside the resort there were lots of other people with the same idea as I had. To get away from the hustle and bustle for a little rest and relaxation and there is no better place to relax than in the mineral pools at the Harrison Resort. I could not believe how many chilren and adults were happily playing comfortably in the pools surrounded by snow covered mountians. The water was so nice and warm and the view delicious. It felt almost surreal.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Who, being loved, is poor?
Oscar Wilde

L O V E such a small word for such a big topic. Four little letters L O V E. Yet so much has been written about the meaning of L O V E . About what L O V E feels like or doesn't. About different kinds of L O V E . The L O V E we have for our children. The L O V E for our mates.
The L O V E for family and friends. The L O V E for our fellow man. L O V E -a multitude of movies and books have been written on the subject. The Bible is full of messages about L O V E and it's true meaning.
Yet the only thing I really know to be true about L O V E is that L O V E is a choice.

I'm back

It has been a long time since I last wrote. I don't know where I have been really. Just walking around on planet earth looking for my spot I suppose.
Lots has happened in the last two months. A New Year has rung in. Gong Xi Fai Choi was celebrated and it is the Year of the Dog for my Chinese friends. We had another election, we have a new Prime Minister who before the his oath of office had been heard around the world he had already made decisions that smacked of impropriety and corruption. All things he promised in his campaign he would put an end to. Ahhh..... the more things change the more they stay the same! Who said that?
Started January off with a trip to Victoria and a one night stay in the Marriott Hotel. My daughter and I shopped till we dropped, ate a wonderful meal in the gourmet restaurant at the hotel, had a few drinks and laughed till we cried.
The rest of January and most of February has been spent trying to dodge the water. Rain, rain and more depressing rain has pounded down upon us making us all think that maybe it was time to start building another ark. To make matters worse the rains were accompanied by high winds which brought flooding and destruction to many peoples lives here on the coast. Fortunately for us the gods smiled upons us - we can't afford water front property!
Lucy is ... well Lucy. She survives almost anything as long as she gets two walks a day, stolen tid bits of food and lots of cuddles. Oh yes and a nap on my bed every afternoon!
